What makes an Inner West move different

Two things decide how long an Inner West job takes: the width of the street and the staircase inside the terrace.

Much of the Inner West is Victorian and Federation terraces on streets laid out before trucks existed. The house itself is rarely the problem — it is how close the truck can get to the front door, and whether the staircase turns.

Terrace staircases are typically narrow, steep and turn at a landing, which rules out carrying a mattress or a wardrobe up in one piece. We plan for that rather than discovering it on the day, which usually means bringing an extra mover on anything above a one-bedroom.

The other Inner West pattern is the warehouse conversion — Marrickville, Alexandria, St Peters. These are the opposite problem: generous internally, but often with a single shared lift and a loading bay that has to be booked with building management well before the day.

Parking and access

Street parking in the Inner West is tight, and narrow terraces mean the truck often cannot pull up right outside. Sort out where it will park before moving day — a council parking permit if your street needs one, or simply confirming with a neighbour or building manager that a spot near the door will be free.

It is worth arranging early: you are charged by the hour, and every metre between the tailgate and the front door gets walked with every item in the house.

If you are in an apartment or a converted warehouse, book the lift at the same time. Buildings routinely allocate one lift for moves and take bookings weeks ahead.

How long will it take?

A one-bedroom Inner West apartment usually takes 2 to 4 hours, a two-bedroom 4 to 6 hours, and a three-bedroom terrace 6 to 8 hours.

Typical move times by property size
PropertyTypical time
One-bedroom apartment2–4 hours
Two-bedroom apartment4–6 hours
Three-bedroom house6–8 hours

Add time for a terrace with a turning staircase and no off-street parking. Subtract it for a ground-floor flat with a driveway. The floor plan matters less than the fifteen metres between the front door and the truck.

Which suburbs do you cover?

We cover the whole Inner West, including Newtown, Marrickville, Balmain, Leichhardt, Annandale, Glebe, Dulwich Hill, Stanmore and Petersham.

Our office is in Bondi, which puts most Inner West addresses inside the included travel allowance. If you are moving between the Inner West and the Eastern Suburbs, that is one of the routes we run most often.

Common questions

How much do removalists cost in the Inner West?

Two movers and a 20m³ truck cost $160 per hour plus GST, with a two-hour minimum. A 30m³ truck is $180 per hour plus GST and a 40m³ truck is $200 per hour plus GST. The Inner West sits inside our standard travel allowance from the Bondi office for most jobs.

Can you move a narrow terrace?

Yes, and it is one of the most common jobs we do in the Inner West. Narrow hallways and steep staircases are what make terraces slow rather than difficult, so tell us about them when you book and we will put the right number of movers on it.

Do I need a parking permit for the truck?

On many Inner West streets, yes. Permits are issued at council discretion rather than on request — Inner West Council caps trades permits at three per address per year — so they have to be arranged well before the moving day rather than on it. Check with the council that covers your street as soon as you have a date, because where the truck can legally stop affects how long the job takes and you are charged by the hour.

Do you move between the Inner West and the Eastern Suburbs?

Constantly — it is one of the most common routes we run. Our office is in Bondi, so an Inner West to Eastern Suburbs move is a short trip at both ends and usually falls inside the included travel allowance.
