The Removal Brothers
We have been moving people around Sydney since 2017, when Manolo bought a single van and started on his own. Today it is ten trucks, a crew that has largely stayed, and rates published on the site rather than quoted over the phone.
How we started
Manolo started The Removal Brothers in 2017, with one van and no crew, moving furniture around Sydney on his own.
What followed is the way removalist businesses are actually built rather than the way they are usually described: one job at a time, mostly on word of mouth. More trucks, more crew, more suburbs covered, each of them earned by the job before it. By 2022 the fleet had grown to six trucks.
The other half of what this business does started in that same first year, while there was still only the one van. Manolo took a call from a woman who needed to leave an abusive relationship urgently, and moved her. We have done at least one a month since.
He wrote down what that night was like, and it reads better in his own words than in any summary here. It is on the domestic violence support page, signed Jose — his real first name, and the one almost nobody uses — along with the crisis contacts that matter more than the story does.
The last few years
Rafa joined Manolo as CEO in 2022. Since then the fleet has gone from six trucks to ten, and the way the business runs has been rebuilt behind it.
I joined the business in 2022. Before that I spent ten years managing businesses in Milan. I hold a degree in Economics and Management from the Università dell'Insubria, and an MBA from Macquarie University here in Sydney. Manolo and I partnered up, and I came on as CEO.
Since then the fleet has grown to ten trucks, and we have put real structure behind the growth. There is a proper booking system with confirmation emails, instead of a phone call and a handshake. There is regular training for the crew. And there are published rates instead of "call for a quote".
We had always carried public liability and goods in transit insurance. We have since added third-party cover as well.

The team that stays
Jhonatan, Juan Seba and Matias have each been with The Removal Brothers for more than five years.
A moving company lives or dies on its crew, and ours has stuck around. The three of them are not simply long-serving staff — they are part of how this business grew into what it is, and most of what a new crew member learns, they learn from one of them.
Matias runs our Northern Beaches and North Shore work, and he lives in the area he moves people around.
