Our own storage, booked with your move
We run our own storage facility, so the same company that loads your house also stores it — no handover to a third party and no second set of paperwork. Any size, short or long term, with optional 24-hour access and self-storage boxes delivered to you.
When do you need storage in a move?
The most common reason is a gap between settlement dates, where you have to be out of one Sydney address before you can get into the next.
The second most common is downsizing — moving from a house to an apartment where some of the furniture has nowhere to go, and the decision about what to sell has not been made yet.
Both are much cheaper handled in advance than improvised on moving day. A truck and crew waiting at the kerb while somebody rings storage facilities is the most expensive hour of any move.
Why does it matter that the storage is ours?
Because one Sydney company loads your house, drives it and stores it — there is no handover to a third-party facility, and nobody to blame if something goes missing in between.
It also means your things are insured end to end. Goods in Transit covers the truck, our own cover takes over in the facility, and there is no handover in between where one policy stops and the next has not started.
Most removalists broker storage to a self-storage chain. That means two contracts, two sets of access rules, and an argument about whose insurance applies if anything is damaged in between.
It also means we can load the unit in the order you will want it out of, because the crew packing the truck is the crew filling the unit.
What sizes are available?
Storage is available in any size, from a few boxes through to the full contents of a 4-bedroom house.
Getting the size right matters more than it sounds. Paying for a unit twice the size you need is the usual mistake, and a unit slightly too small means a second trip.
Tell our office what you are storing and roughly how long for, and we will work out the size before the move rather than on the day.
Can I get to my things while they are stored?
Yes — 24-hour access is available on request, though it needs to be arranged when the storage is booked rather than afterwards.
If you know you will need to get at particular items, say so before we load. What goes in last comes out first, and packing the unit in the right order costs nothing at the time and saves an afternoon later.
Can boxes be delivered to me?
Yes, self-storage boxes can be delivered to your Sydney address before the move so you can pack at your own pace.
This works particularly well for downsizing, where sorting what to keep takes longer than the move itself and cannot sensibly be done in one day.
How is storage arranged?
Call our Bondi office with your dates and roughly what you are storing, and we will size the unit and quote it before the move.
Storage is quoted separately from the move, because the price depends on size and duration rather than on hours. We will give you the figure before you commit to anything.
Because the facility is ours, storage and the move go on one booking and one invoice rather than two.
Storage is the part of a move most often decided on the day, and it is the part that most rewards deciding early. If you are within a fortnight of a settlement gap you already know about, it is worth a phone call now.
Common questions
Are my belongings insured while in storage?
- Yes. Your belongings are insured while they are in our storage, and our Goods in Transit insurance covers them while they are on the truck. Because both the truck and the facility are ours, there is no handover point where one policy ends and another has not started — which is exactly where cover goes missing when a removalist drops your load at a third-party self-storage site.
How long can I store things for?
- Short and long term are both fine, from a few days covering a settlement gap through to months while you decide what to do with a downsized household. Tell us your expected duration when you book, since it affects which option makes sense.
Can you move things straight into storage on moving day?
- Yes, and that is the usual arrangement. We load at your old address and unload into storage the same day, which is cheaper than moving your things twice. Arrange it in advance so the unit is ready when the truck arrives.
What should I not put into storage?
- Anything perishable, flammable, or that you will need before you take the unit apart. It is also worth keeping documents, valuables and medication with you rather than in storage, regardless of how secure the facility is.
